PACT, an acronym for the names of its members and a heartfelt commitment to the craft, this four-part art collective was born through Hip-Hop open mics in 2019 and has since evolved to hold the wide variety of influences of its members, Phillip Saint John, AMG, Thomas C Gorton, and Mama Rose. They combine their expansive interests, ancestry, spirituality, life experiences, and musical skills to bring us genre-bending music that expands the heart and inspires the mind.
Mama Rose delivers a transformative healing experience through her raw, tender, and sensual vocals, using freestyle looping, acoustic instrumentation, poetry, and multi-genre singing that unite us to ourselves, each other, and nature. Her experience as a mystic, mother of three, and trauma survivor create the foundation for her exploration of where motherhood, sexuality, spirituality, and the natural world intersect.
Thomas C Gorton’s self-produced rap is a carefully crafted cultural commentary to wake one up to the Self and is colored by dense metaphors and experimental vocals that weave into complex polyrhythm and polyphony arising from the blending of his African, Native American, and Northern European Heritage.
Phillip Saint John’s uplifting Indie-Rap ballads bring together theatrical pop-vocals, orchestral instrumentation, and dense lyrical landscapes that take us on a ride through his process of healing childhood wounds, mixed-race identity, and relational hurts while giving us the courage to embark on our own individual journeys.
AMG’s lyrics are as deep in concept as they are in tone as he traverses unorthodox beats in the realms of Dubstep, Drum and Bass, and electronic music. A true wielder of information, he handles his words with ease, painting pictures that open the mind to the truth and then remind his listeners that they are strong enough not only to handle it but to make personal and collective change.
The common theme amongst PACT’s members and music is empowerment and box-breaking new-ness. This collective of misfits has been acclaimed for breaking Hip Hop out of its “box” and they continue to push the envelope with each new collaboration, performance, and individual work.
