Tuesday: Blackalicious

“We’re older, we’re wiser, we’re more mature,” MC Gift of Gab (nee Timothy Parker) says of Imani, Vol. 1, Blackalicious’ first new album in a decade. Imani, Vol. 1 lives up to the beloved California-bred duo’s hard-won reputation as one of hip-hop’s most progressive, forward-thinking creative forces. Acclaimed for the sublime combination of Gab’s verbal dexterity and lyrical eloquence, and X’s bracing beats and distinctive soundscapes, Blackalicious has earned widespread respect, both inside and outside of the hip-hop community.

Sounds like: Jurassic 5, De La Soul, Lyrics Born, The Pharcyde

Wednesday: Parsonsfield

Though they call western Massachusetts home, Parsonsfield draws their name from the rural Maine town that’s home to the Great North Sound Society, the farmhouse-turned-recording-studio of Josh Ritter keyboardist/producer Sam Kassirer. It was there that they cut their outstanding debut, Poor Old Shine, which established them as a roots force to be reckoned with. Their latest album, Blooming Through The Black begins as an acoustic folk number and builds to an electrified tumult.

Thursday: Dusty Heart – Video + Single Release Show

Rich vocal harmonies merge with intimate layers of guitar, fiddle and banjo to define the lush sound of the recently formed duo, Dusty Heart. Barbara Jean and Molly Dean are two songwriters recognized in their own right for their poetic lyrics and distinct vocal styles that when combined as Dusty Heart fuse to create a powerful and haunting sound that takes on a life of its own. Dusty Heart met in the Minneapolis music scene and became fast friends as well as fans and supporters of one another’s work. Bonding over their refusal to be pigeonholed musically or otherwise, their shared wanderlust and love of adventure, a passion for the open road, vast landscapes, and a mutual love for musical harmony, the two decided to join forces crafting a sound that bridges together the diverse musical worlds of roots, indie, and folk.

“Dusty Heart combines great songs with lucid harmony and stunning musical talent.” –Dave Simonett, Trampled By Turtles
