Tuesday: NOCTURNAL UNIT

Local hip-hop collective Nocturnal Unit is comprised of all family members, hailing from here to Northfield. They launched in 2010 and bill themselves as “hardcore hip-hop punk funk”. Be sure not to miss their first 7th St show here on Tuesday and support these budding local artists.

Sounds like: Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Misfits

Wednesday: CEREBRAL BALLZY

Nostalgic punk-rockers from Brooklyn, Cerebral Ballzy look to revive early 80’s speed metal. The goal was to record music at as fast of speed as possible, and they have been just as quick to win over the music world, signing their record deal a mere six months after forming as a band. Their newest LP Jaded & Faded, was released in June and was produced by well-known producer and TV On the Radio guitarist Dave Sitek.

Sounds like: Pissed Jeans, FIDLAR, Iron Lung

Thursday: GLOW MECHANICS FACTORED IN EP Release Party

Another local hip-hop act upcoming is Glow Mechanics, and will be having their second release party in 7th St this Thursday. Known for their incredible live shows and immense MN-specific touring, they’ve made quite the name for themselves being included on Vita.mn’s list of Best New Bands of 2014. Their 2013 LP, Schmo Mechanics, made in the charts in the college hip-hop category. Expect great things from this exciting trio in the future, and start that by attending their Factored In EP release party.

Sounds like: Madvillain, Chance the Rapper, Atmosphere

Friday: THE SEXTONS EP Release Show

The local four-piece rock band The Sextons are releasing their long-awaited new EP and celebrating at the Entry to commemorate! In 2008, after spending a couple of years playing as a solo artist in the Twin Cities, Eric Moeckel asked 3 of his musical comrades to join him and help broaden the sound of his music. Layering dense guitar chords, boutique effects and fuzz bass, and creating eerie lead parts by pumping mellotrons and analogue synths through guitar amps, The Sextons’ sound developed into the spacey and harmonically rich music heard on their self-titled debut album. Don’t miss their EP release in the Entry for an intimate-yet-rockin’ party.

Sounds like: Ought, Grizzly Bear

Saturday: SNOWMINE

Brooklyn’s own Snowmine will be headlining the Entry this Saturday. Coming off a strong sophomore-album release in February, their LP Dialects introduced a more structured sound to the band, tightening up their indie pop rock and growing immensely since their highly-regarded debut album, Laminate Pet Animal. This five-piece band is rich with echo pedals, tribal beats, and fronted by composer Grayson Sanders, who is often compared with Robin Pecknold and Jim Jones. Snowmine aren’t exactly a prolific touring band, so it’d be a huge mistake to miss this weekend show.

Sounds like: Fleet Foxes, My Morning Jacket, The War On Drugs

Sunday: UP ROCK | PRETTY UGLY | CASUAL CONFUSION | TSHISUAKA

Up Rock consists of St. Paul duo Dundee and Digie, creating one of the most influential Minnesota albums in the 90’s under the moniker Abstract Pack and have received the prestigious Legend Award in 2008 at the Twin Cities Hip Hop Awards. Their new EP has led them on tours with Talib Kweli, Toki Wright and many others, and is best described as body rock hip-hop influenced by heavy dubs.

Sounds like: Shabazz Palaces, Outkast, Common

Monday: WAND

Yet another project with major contributions coming from Ty Segall, who produced their newest album and played as guest on several tracks—and is featured on the lead single “Screaming Eye” which was included as the B-side for their label Famous Class 7” alongside Mikal Cronin. Their music is centered around the underground fuzz rock any Ty Segall fan craves yet includes some vibrant electronic soundscapes that set their music far apart from their closest music relatives. These garage rockers are going to put on a hell of a show, especially in a venue as intimate as the 7th St Entry.

Sounds like: Ty Segall, PANGEA, Pink Floyd
