Monday: Mac DeMarco (SOLD OUT)
While still musically, lyrically and melodically good old Mac Demarco, his new album Salad Days features standout tracks like “Chamber of Reflection” and “Passing Out Pieces” that show a widening sound. Whether a preview of DeMarco’s future direction, or simply a one-off foray into new territory, Salad Days gives incredibly personal insight into what it’s all about to be Mac amidst the craziness of a rising career in a very public format. Known for his wild performances and quirky stage presence, First Ave is beyond excited to have Mac DeMarco in the Entry for this sold out show.

Tuesday: Skinny Lister
Borrowing a nickname from the Lister family – pioneers in the use of anesthetic – Skinny Lister is a London based five-piece hailing from across England that deny being “your average, modern day, gentrified folk group.” Over the past two years, the band has grown organically – Yorkshire born songwriter and frontman Dan Heptinstall partners with Lorna Thomas (vocalist), her older brother Max, long-time shanty singer Sam ‘Mule’ Brace, and bassist Dan Gray. The team met some time ago at a folk club in London’s Greenwich area and have been stomping their feet and clicking their heels together, revolving around perceptive ballads and folkie idylls, ever since.

Wednesday: Blueprint Respect the Architect Tour
Producer/emcee Blueprint began his career with the release of a couple of unassuming cassette tapes in 1999. The success of those tapes at the local level inspired he and his crew to form their own independent label, Weightless Recordings, which led to the national and international distribution of their releases. Thanks to Weightless Recordings, Blueprint gained national recognition and became a major player in the fast-rising Columbus hip-hop scene. While Blueprint’s initial buzz came from his work as a producer, the formation of Soul Position with instrumentalist RJD2 pushed Blueprint into the spotlight as an emcee. His Soul Position crew has headlined a sold-out nationwide tour, and he has toured with acts such as Atmosphere, Murs, Brother Ali, Living Legends, Evidence, Blowfly, Islands, Grieves & Budo, and Eyedea & Abilities on his way to becoming one of the most respected artists in underground hip-hop. Blueprint is playing the Entry with DJ Rare Groove, Count Bass D and RP Hooks.

Thursday: Soho Ghetto
An indie pop-folk band from Halifax, SoHo Ghetto has become known for their striking mix of artful arrangements, big harmonies and hook-laden anthems. More pertinent is the blend of precise musicianship and energetic mayhem they bring to live shows. SoHo Ghetto has been busy over the past year touring throughout the East coast and playing the festival scene. The group’s acclaimed live performances have been steadily generating buzz, leading up to the release of their first full-length later this year. The album was produced by the award-winning Daniel Ledwell, who was named producer of the year at the East Coast Music Awards. Make sure to catch the performance everyone is talking about, this Thursday in the Entry!

Friday: Run Westy Run (SOLD OUT)
One of the later groups to arrive on the Minneapolis post-punk scene, Run Westy Run never made it quite as big as their influential peers like Hüsker Dü, The Replacements, or Soul Asylum, but they did make waves locally. Founded in the mid-1980s by Kraig Johnson (Jayhawks) and his brothers Kirk and Kyle from St Louis Park, the “Westies” played hard-blasting psychedelic art-rock and were known for their unpredictable, adrenaline-filled live shows, which quickly attracted a strong following in Minneapolis. Before lead guitarist Terry Fisher organized a 2013 reunion tour from his new home in Duluth, the band had last performed at the 400 Bar sometime in 1998. FYI: While this Entry show is sold out, the band will also be playing an early all ages show on Sunday, June 29 at the Amsterdam in St. Paul.

Saturday: Painted Palms | Geographer
Painted Palms is a collaboration between two cousins who grew up together in Louisiana, but started making music over the Internet when one moved to San Francisco. of Montreal’s Kevin Barnes discovered their work and took the boys on tour, introducing their work to new audiences. Although both cousins now live in San Francisco, they continue to write in isolation and trade song ideas via email. Their show Saturday in the Entry seems to have a family theme – while Painted Palms is made up of family, co-headliners Geographer was born out of family strife. Since the Geographer song “The Morning” was featured in the film New Work, I Love You and the band was listed in SPIN as one of the Undiscovered Bands You Need to Hear Now, the group has taken off and is now touring with their sophomore release, Myth. These two San Francisco-based bands will be supported by local favorite Tickle Torture, so don’t miss it!

Sunday: Cousins
While Saturday’s Entry show features an actual set of cousins, but Sunday’s headliners COUSINS are not really cousins at all. COUSINS are Leigh and Aaron, the hardest working guitar/drums duo in Halifax, as of late. While the Halifax geographic, cultural, and economic factors often take a toll on the lifespan of the average Atlantic Canadian rock unit, COUSINS carry on. After several years of near-endless North American touring, two full length albums, and a string of limited edition releases, COUSINS have finally come into their own: poised, clean, lean. Full of love and punk romance, COUSINS’ version of rock n roll will fix your bike and leave paint under your fingernails.
