Monday: The Men
The Men are no stranger to the Entry and are returning in support of Tomorrow’s Hits, their fifth full-length record. Tomorrow’s Hits is a concise collection of songs that nonetheless expands the band’s ever-evolving musical palette involving influences of classic, punk, and country rock. Every year The Men bring us a new record and another set list of straight up rock that can’t be missed.

Tuesday: Speedy Ortiz
The four-piece rock outfit Speedy Ortiz has had no time to slow down. In the midst of near-constant touring, they managed to recently unleash a new EP, Real Hair, out on Carpark Records to follow up their debut album, Major Arcana, named Best New Music by Pitchfork. The band is able to distill their influences and impulses into something at once dissonant and melodic: marked by Darl Ferm’s thick bass lines, drummer Mike Falcone’s boisterous fills, and the counterbalance between guitarist Matt Robidoux’s anti-melodic playing and frontwoman Sadie Dupuis’s angular riffing.

Wednesday: Nathaniel Rateliff
Singer-songwriter Nathaniel Rateliff was raised in a devoutly religious family in rural Missouri. He taught himself to play the drums at age seven, and gravitated to the guitar at age thirteen. As a teenager he moved to Denver, Colorado, where he worked on the docks for a trucking company. But he could only tolerate it for so long, so he channeled his energy into making music full time. He is now releasing his solo debut, Falling Faster Than You Can Run and sharing it on tour.

Thursday: Wake Owl
Singer/songwriter Colyn Cameron of Wake Owl has been immersed in the world of music for the past ten years. His new record, The Private World of Paradise, showcases Wake Owl’s departure from straight forward-acoustic-guitar-driven songs, highlighting the band’s poise and retro-rock mannerisms. Also check out opener Lyla Foy, who recently released her debut record Mirrors the Sky on Sub Pop.

Friday: Mally The Colors of Black Album Release Party
MaLLy aka Malik Watkins sought out to build a name for himself and his craft, from his debut record, The Passion, to his work with The Sundance Kid on the Free on the 15th series, to his most recent album, The Last Great…. DJ LAST WORD has been producing and live mixing for local rappers like Dialogue Elevators, Ernie Rhodes, and more. He’s been spinning since 2000, getting his start at former Dinkytown sandwich shop/music venue Bon Appetit. MaLLy and DJ LAST WORD have teamed up on their the new LP, The Colors of Black, and are celebrating its release Friday night in the Entry.

Saturday: Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires
The Glory Fires are too loud for Texas and no strangers to Norway; well-mannered Southern punks you would feel comfortable giving the keys to your empty house. It’s no surprise that renowned rock’n’roll outsider Tim Kerr has taken them under his wing. The Glory Fires have taken their caterwauling live show around the clubs, basements and theatres of the United States and Europe, raging around Lee’s literary, personal, politically charged lyrics – bringing to mind Ronnie Van Zant under the tutelage of Noam Chomsky, or Lee Ving on a Cornel West kick. Their debut LP There Is a Bomb in Gilead was released in 2012 on Alive Natural-Sound Records, and their Sub Pop debut will appear in 2014.

Sunday: The Vagina Monologues | Awkward Bodies Album Release
The Vagina Monologues is an episodic play written by Eve Ensler which ran at the Off Broadway Westside Theatre after a limited run at HERE Arts Center in 1996. The Vagina Monologues introduces a wildly divergent gathering of female voices, including a six-year-old girl, a septuagenarian New Yorker, a vagina workshop participant, a woman who witnesses the birth of her granddaughter, a Bosnian survivor of rape, and a feminist happy to have found a man who “liked to look at it.” There will be two performances: at 1pm and 4pm. Presented in association with V-Day 2014.
Later that night, local trio Awkward Bodies will be releasing their record, Get Left, and bringing Paragraphs and Party of One along for the ride.
