TUESDAY: Sleepy Sun

In the six years since Sleepy Sun released the White Dove 7″, the Northern California band sometimes seemed to live the lives of a hundred bands. They toured incessantly, shed old skin, tore down walls with riffs, and explored black smoke, barrel-dark songs, and studio sheen—all with a core that has survived since the band crawled from the dusty sage-scented Santa Cruz underbrush.

SATURDAY: Sidewalk Chalk

With the release of its sophomore album, Leaves, Sidewalk Chalk continues to lead the contemporary evolution of hip-hop, soul, and jazz. The band’s roots are firmly planted in Chicago where all eight members bring their respective talents together to update a sound first heralded in the Native Tongues era but never so musically diverse. The group’s unique arrangement allows them to incorporate numerous styles seamlessly: an MC and female vocalist; a trio of keys, bass, and drums; a horn section with trombone and trumpet; and a tap-dancer.

SUNDAY: Black Church Service | VIA | The Black Moods

The Black Moods are a 3-pieces rock outfit hailing from Tempe, Arizona, by way of the Missouri Ozarks. This band is bringing a new level of heat out of the Sonora desert. Led by one of the most electric front men/guitarists in music today. […] Comprised of Josh Kennedy (lead guitarist/vocalist), Ryan Prier (bassist/Back-up vocalist), and Danny “Chico” Diaz (drums), the trio blends various rock & Roll styles that span from the past 4 decades to form their own signature sound that resembles what would be the musical offspring of Bad Company and the Foo Fighters. The band’s live show is filled with high energy, infectious guitar solos and attitude that can keep the crowds’ attention for hours. Having received acclaimed praise from fans and critics alike as equal parts natural talent and live performance superstars, the group delivers powerful guitar riffs, melodic bass and drum beats that make your heart pound like a kick drum.
