Tuesday: Richard Buckner
In the time since Our Blood was released and after a few long tours, Richard Buckner attempted to work on writing short stories but found himself drawn back into the music room. The evidence of his time in the writer’s chair is clear in the dense, lovely prose of Surrounded. The album’s liner notes include text-embedded lyrics, a technique Buckner employed on his earlier albums Since and Impasse, but this marks the first time he used the songs’ extended story to construct the album’s overall view and track sequence.

Wednesday: Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds
In 2008, singer and songwriter Arleigh Kincheloe said goodbye to her hometown hideaway in the Catskill Mountains and moved to New York City to start Sister Sparrow & The Dirty Birds. In the years since, the group has performed more than 600 shows, released two full-length albums and an EP produced by Randy Jackson (American Idol), and enchanted tastemakers ranging from The Wall Street Journal and LA Times to Glamour, USA Today, and The New Yorker. On May 19, 2015, the band unleashed their most rambunctious, raucous, and righteous recording to date in the form of The Weather Below.

Kyle Craft grew up in a tiny Louisiana town on the banks of the Mississippi. A David Bowie hits compilation helped inspire him eventually to channel his innate feral energy into songwriting and rock and roll. That self-made talent drives every note of Dolls of Highland, Craft’s exhilarating, fearless solo debut. “This album is the dark corner of a bar,” he says. “It’s that feeling at the end of the night when you’re confronted with ‘now what?’”

Saturday: Matthew Mayfield (evening show)
Birmingham native Matthew Mayfield has a series of critically acclaimed releases to his credit, including 2013’s Irons In The Fire, produced by Paul Moak (Mat Kearney, The Weeks) and hailed by AbsolutePunk.net as “a fantastic showcase of Mayfield’s talents and a great step forward.” In addition to four new songs, the EP contains remastered versions of “Fire Escape” and “Tonight,” which Mayfield penned with The Civil Wars’ John Paul White for 2011’s Now You’re Free. Mayfield’s latest album, Wild Eyes, was released in early 2015.
