Tastemaker Picks: Gaelynn Lea

Every week, we ask a local tastemaker to pick a couple of upcoming shows they’re excited about. This week, Gaelynn Lea (celebrating her EP release in the Entry on August 17) tells us about the shows she’s looking forward to:

Aside from an obvious choice of August 20th’s show with Wilco at Hall’s Island (a musical staple throughout my college years and forever dear to my heart), I am pumped about the Turf Club’s September 10th show featuring The Last Revel with The Gentleman’s Anti-Temperance League and East Cameron Folkcore. I love the sounds of The Last Revel’s harmonies and I am a sucker for the banjo (I’m from Duluth! It’s practically required!), and I am a total fan of Gentleman’s Anti-Temperance League. Not only do they have one of the best band names in history, but their swing sound is awesome – catchy and nostalgic and classy all at once. We’ve shared the stage before and I truly loved their set; I’ve always been drawn to older styles of music like swing and big band and ragtime, especially so when strings are featured. Highly recommend!
