Weather Warlock

Weather Warlock is a band based around an instrument of the same name, created by New Orleans musician / inventor Quintron. The instrument is a large analog synthesizer which is controlled completely by the weather and employs sun, rain, wind, temperature, moon, and lightning to affect an F major drone chord with special sonic events occurring at sunrise and sunset. The four members that make up the core band for this tour are: Quintron, Gary Wrong (Wizzard Sleeve, Kajun SS, Jeth Row records, etc), Kunal Prakash (Jeff The Brotherhood), and Aaron Hill (Eyehategod, King Louie, etc). There will also be a handful of locals from whatever town we happen to be in. To give an example, recent Weather Warlock players have included Steve Shelly (Sonic Youth), Sean Ono Lennon, Nels Cline (Wilco), Paula Henderson (Sun Ra Arkestra), M.C. Schmidt (Matmos), Jason Hodges (Suppresson, Bermuda Triangle), Barry London (Oenida), Cooper Moore, Bonnie Jones, Paul Grass (Egg Yolk Jubilee), Travis Blotsky (9th Ward Marching Band), and Luke Stewart (Sun Ra Arkestra).

HISTORY / FUTURE

This project was completed by Quintron in Captiva Florida during a May 2014 Robert Rauschenberg residency in Captiva Florida. Since these first Rauschenberg experiments, four active Weather Warlocks have been built in the United States - one in New Orleans, one in Miami Florida, one in Acra New York, and a touring instrument. Each one of these instruments is customized to the local climate and the exact location of the sensors. The latest instrument (pictured below) has new features including a keyboard, a blow tube, and white noise surf sounds.

In 2011 Quintron and Miss Pussycat (www.quintronandmisspussycat.com) installed a solo exhibition at the New Orleans Museum Of Art which focused primarily on an earlier related invention called THE DRUM BUDDY, a light activated analog drum machine. Quintron has no formal education in music or art but he did graduate from high school with a solid C average.

Most recently Weather Warlock traveled to the Abu Dhabi to perform and record their latest album, Headless Falcon (Rhinestone Records). The album is a collaboration between the core US members and a collection of 7 musicians from the Middle East, including Sherine Thomay, master of the Oud. In 2018 Weather Warlock will be part of an exhibit at the Geffon Museum of contemporary art in Los Angeles, California.
