NYC-based comedian and actor Todd Barry is widely recognized for his roles as the bongo-playing “Third Conchord” on HBO’s Flight of the Conchords and Mickey Rourke’s deli boss in Oscar award winning film The Wrestler. Renowned throughout the entertainment industry for his nuanced, measured, and thoroughly original approach to stand-up, Barry draws his audience members in with his deadpan self-deprecation and ability to pile punchline upon punchline. His decidedly low-key stage persona belies a deeply intelligent, often biting, occasionally absurdist worldview, one lauded by discerning fans who seek a fresh yet honest update to traditional observation and social commentary.
In spring 2014, Louis CK released Todd’s tour documentary/concert film Todd Barry: The Crowd Work Tour for $5 on his site. Funded and produced by Louis and directed by Lance Bangs, the special follows Todd as he left his scripted jokes at home to perform an entire tour of riffing and bantering with the audience. Todd performed multiple sold out Crowd Work Tour shows throughout 2013, the special was shot at seven shows up the West Coast from San Diego to Anchorage. Todd will do one Final Crowd Work Tour April/May 2014.
Hailed a “master of standup” by the New York Times and named Time Out New York’s 50 Funniest, the veteran comedian has performed on stages all over the world and boasts multiple stand-up appearances on The Late Show with David Letterman, CONAN, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and three Comedy Central Presents specials. Todd’s resume also includes such hit TV shows as Louie, Delocated, Bored to Death, Tim and Eric, Chappelle’s Show, Sex and the City, and even Sesame Street. Feature films also include Amy Heckerling’s Vamps, David Wain’s Wanderlust, Todd Phillips’s Road Trip, Louis CK’s Pootie Tang, and Mitch Hedberg’s Los Enchiladas.
Todd has released four comedy albums, Medium Energy, Falling Off the Bone, From Heaven, and Super Crazy, all available from Comedy Central Records, Amazon and iTunes. The Onion’s AV Club crowned Medium Energy one of the best comedy albums of the decade, Super Crazy was Laughspin’s #2 Best Comedy Album of 2012. In April 2013 the Todd Barry Podcast debuted. It reached #1 on the iTunes Comedy Podcast charts. Named by Rolling Stone, Buzzfeed and Paste as a Top Twitterer, he entertains hundreds of thousands of Twitter followers daily.
