The Ronald Raygun began in 2003 as an exercise regime, in which drummer Matt Haapala and guitarist/bassist Ben Hinz would meet in a moldy basement and excise some demons for a few hours twice a week. The band took its true form in 2010, with the addition of new members. They recorded their debut to vinyl, We Will All Be Dirt, released on Dwarfcraft Global Media, which features a wide variety of sonic pleasures from droning guitars laced with delicate melodies to riff heavy rock anthems.

The most recent lineup of the group consists of Hinz, Haapala, who in addition to manning the monster drum sound that fuels The Ronald Raygun, Haapala also plays keys and synths, and Jaime Hansen on both guitar and bass. Jaime has a long history of recording major players in the midwest music machine, including Mel Gibson and the Pants (who's members include Ryan Olson and Drew Christopherson), Amateur Love (out on Justin Vernon's Chigliak Records) and Sean Carey. The Ronald Raygun has made it their goal to present a maelstrom of live sound, incorporating post-rock beauty, sludgy baritone riffs, clanging noise rock, and plenty of 70's flavored groove, with inspirations running the gamut from Pink Floyd to Boris. The band is best described as heavy modern psych, though defining a genre is difficult at best. The band's upcoming release, Surrender Dorothy, is due out in late 2012.
