The Kid Vicious

The Kid Vicious (real name Steven Klingler) got his first drumset @ the age of ten and knew that music would always be a central part of his life. In marching bands, orchestras and rock combos throughout his school years, he constantly sought out new sounds and new skills to master. A college electronic music class opened his mind to experimental composers and taught him the basics of MIDI. His college radio experience as a hip hop dj @ West Chester University Radio taught him not only the dj basics, but that tracks serve different purposes, and some were more suited for the dancefloor than just for listening.

Around this time he got involved in Philly's emerging Drum n Bass scene, which solidified his love for all things electronic. A move to Minneapolis for recording school halted his live djing, but pushed his production forward, with his main focus being on hip hop and drum and bass, while he also continued playing live music. Several years and several U.S. tours (with his band Nehemiah) later, he returned again to electronic music production.

In 2008 he released his mash up album Kid Vicious presents….Boytalk on his label Ridiculous Awesome Records. Requests to play live shows followed, which brought about his return to djing. His tastes evolved, as did his production, which lead him to making and playing dubstep. He had a remix featured on the 2011 Yuk Records compilation Murderapolis vol 1. Around this time he was also diving headfirst into moombahton, and in January 2012 released a 10 track collection of originals and remixes, entitled The Drop Never Comes EP. He released a 2 track ep on Las Vegas's 119 Sound in early December of 2012, featuring the original tracks U.2.B.I.T.C. and Better Axe. That was shortly followed by The Grimey ep with Digital T on YoSucka! records, which featured two original collaboration tracks, Grimey and Champ, as well as remixes of Grimey by 2Deep, CyKosis and label head OktoRed.

2013 was he year of the free release. First up was The Chicken ep, released by Deadly Vipers records and Walmer Convienience. The Chicken featured remixes from up and comers The R.O.A.R and Digital T! as well as established El Cuco label president Mendez. Following that release was a collaborative track Pirates with French artist DaKnown on the "Next Wave of Moombahton vol 5" compilation. Now that's what I call DickSquad vol 2 holds the bawdy twerk track "The HDA". Moomba+ also released The Moombah Rave with TKV's flip of Nasty Habit's track Shadowboxin.

Starting off 2014 with a Dead Kennedys rework on the Punk Goes Moombah compilation, and a tune on the forthcoming Juke World Order compilation TKV has a lot of collabs and originals headed your way this year. Both solo and as half of Belz n Whzzlz, The Kid Vicious has been direct support for Boys Noize (OWSLA), Salva (Frite Nite), UZ (Ball Trap/Mad Decent), Traxman (Teklife), Luminox (Club Cartel) Dj Spinn (Teklife), DJ Earl (Teklife), Vaski (Play Me, Rottun), OktoRed (JukeTrax, Generation Bass, YoSucka!) Dirty South Joe (Mad Decent) & Flufftronix (as LuvStep), Buku (Pilot/Never Say Die) and many others at festivals like Infrasound Equinox Music festival and Electrovember and at his residency District 160 @ Barfly.
