The Jelly Project

The Jelly Project has already garnered the ultimate accolade a young band could ask for... biker cred. Motorcycle gangs flock to see this band tear it up. Outlaws and hipsters alike seem to be smitten with Jelly, a fiery young twin cities girl who's voice and stage presence echo the great Janis Joplin, and her band of burly, bearded boys who lay down the funk like their life depends on it. The fact that this rag tag group stumbled into writing some of the most poignant and moving rock of 2012 should be duly noted.

In the summer of 2010 a freakishly easy collaboration between Angelica Thomas aka Jelly and the rhythm section of a local band quickly turned into The Jelly Project, with every member deciding it a worth while venture to back this enigmatic young woman. Fast forward a few months and the entire band is living under one roof, touring in their tricked out RV Rosie, unleashing their Primus infused blues at Sturgis and other great Midwest venues.

Their debut album Ugly Dirty, is a collection of primal rock songs intersperced with coughs, grunts and sexual innuendo. The music is concise and dirty, a sound the band calls "classic fresh", lending itself well to fans of classic rock while bringing a modern social and political message ala Rage Against the Machine. The title track "Ugly Dirty" is a powerful plea to our alienated youth, asking the hurt and desensitized to once again experience the ebullience of life. The taunting refrain "I know you won't go down with me tonight" seems more like a prodding invitation to join Jelly and the gang in their raw visionquest. With a compelling first release under the belts, The Jelly Project is embarking on a year long tour. They will be in the Midwest this summer, the west coast in the fall, the south in winter and the East Coast in the spring. No matter where they are, its gonna be a perfect time to get a little “Ugly Dirty” and see what the buzz is all about.
