The Half Hearts

The Half Hearts have been described as a mix between Fleetwood Mac and The Pixies. Originally from Duluth, MN - this indie pop quartet combines elements of progressive rock, surf, grunge, cabaret, and neo-classical arrangements. Each member has a unique style – the Vintage Queen, Twee, Mountain Man, and Meta-Nerd. You wouldn't think this line-up would work, but it comes together like a classic cheese-wine-fruit pairing.

In 2010, The Half Hearts released their debut album, After the Flood, which chronicled singer-guitarist Flip Arkulary’s difficult time finding grounding in the Recession of 2008. He worked on Barack Obama’s Presidential Campaign and finally ended up in South Minneapolis with fellow band mate, singer-bassist, Robert Cox. Together Flip & Cox toured the country and built the framework of what would become the modern day Half Hearts. Singer-keyboardist, Caitie Collins, attended the University of Iowa with Flip, but the two hadn’t seen each other in years. She moved to Minneapolis, got engaged, and joined The Half Hearts when the engagement fell through. Singer-drummer, Mitch Miller, joined the band last after being in a slew of Minneapolis ensembles. Together they wrote and recorded their sophomore album, Uptown Sound, which catalogues their lives in South Minneapolis over the last two years – tales of snobby scenesters, lost loves, seedy gangsters, wild women, and the struggle to get noticed in an ever-changing world of music.
