The Evening Rig

Camp Evening Rig pitched its first tent deep in the timbers of Minneapolis, where the ruggedly attractive founding counselors performed at the inaugural all-camp talent show, back in 2006. It went so well, the foursome hit the road, inheriting the camp’s name and touring other prominent campgrounds across this fine nation. Head Scout of A&R at Camp New West Records, Peter Jasperson had this to say: “The Evening Rig are one of those rare rock groups that seem to turn up out of nowhere, holding all of the goods. Their debut album, Never Been'er, is astonishingly strong, well written and played, confident, powerful, melodic ... the singer in particular just kills me. They're the best new band I've heard out of Minneapolis in eons.”

This story starts and ends with the aforementioned founding foursome. First we have Rebecca Hanten, hailing from Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She keeps the beat. She also fancies herself an avid ornithologist and master of ceremonies at each and every drum circle. Oh, and she’s way into Satan. Next, you’ll find our gamesman, Josh Lynch. The dude loves metal but his hair would suggest otherwise. He’s a skilled marksman, hunting anything and everything — from grouse to gator to man. Not to be fucked with. That, and he’s the best in the Midwest when it comes laying down the licks on rock jams. Third up is Jason Miller. If he’s not leading a nature hike you’ll find him scaling mountains. His vocals are as supple and smooth as a newborn rabbit pelt. And when it comes to campfires, this guy has mastered the craft. Needless to say, if you ever need to destroy some evidence, Jason’s your guy. Lastly, you’ll find our very own professional water skier, Eric Reyers. This guy is a man fish and quite the nudist. No matter the task at hand, he feels it’s best performed in the buff. On the side, he enjoys the culinary arts, making a mean tater tot hot dish. Speaking of mean, you should hear him slap a bass.

Over the years Camp Evening Rig has had the privilege of sharing tents and, on occasion, sleeping bags with some of the most hardcore of all campers. Most notably, the whiskey-scented, fly fishing boys of Lucero; the best tree fort builders in the biz, Soul Asylum; those lumberjacks of rock n' roll, The Hold Steady and the we're-way-into-pontooning Two Cow Garage fellas, just to name a few... Since breaking ground back in 2006, Camp Evening Rig has released a few musical offerings, providing their fans with a smattering of recorded aural pleasure. While that studio material is both satisfying and delicious, Camp Evening Rig is best understood and appreciated in the wild from whence it came — live. Kumbaya-style. With a side of Jack.
