The Blackbird Darlings

The Blackbird Darlings is a blues-garage rock trio from Golden Valley, Minnesota. It consists of guitarist and vocalist Jake Juusola, bassist Rylee Werden, and drummer Adam Luoma. The project started between Adam and Jake. They wanted to create a blues rock band focused on dirty guitars and driving bass, complemented by overdriven vocals and drums. In the early stages, Adam Luoma played synths in unison with Jake. After developing a couple of songs, the decision was made to put together a full band.

Conveniently, all of the members of The Blackbird Darlings attend the music program at the Perpich Center for Arts Education, so finding musicians to collaborate with wasn't difficult. After working with Rylee in school ensembles, the project brought on a bassist. All that remained un-filled was a drummer. This search proved to be much more difficult than the search for a bassist had been. After going through various drummers of vastly differing styles, the group collectively decided to break down to a trio. By simply dropping the synths and moving Adam to the drum kit, the search for a drummer ended. This move also helped solidify their music's raw sound. The band began writing, and soon named the group. This is The Blackbird Darlings.
