The Bishops

The Bishops – from their start in the mid '90s, the Bishops have always been about bringing their love for vintage ska and reggae to their friends and fans of those styles all across the Midwest. The recipient of several ‘World Music’ OEAs (Omaha Entertainment Awards), the group is a well-recognized force in the regional music scene. They have also played dozens of shows outside of the Midwest, spreading their music nationwide by touring to the East, West, and Gulf Coasts multiple times and participating in ska and reggae festivals across the country. The Bishops have shared the stage and supported or collaborated with many notable artists over the decades. Many times they have supported well-loved artists such as The Skatalites, The Slackers, The English Beat, The Toasters, The Urge, Yellowman, The Wailers, the Aggrolites, Pato Banton, and many more. In 2015 the group was introduced to Monty Neysmith of Symarip by Chuck Wren of Jump Up Records. They recorded with Monty after a Chicago show where they backed him on several classic Symarip tunes and some of Monty’s own material. After that, a full-length collaboration and multiple tours ensued. To this date, they still remain in touch and good friends. In 2020, the band was set to celebrate its’ 25th anniversary in late March. Unfortunately, fate had other plans in mind as the world shut down in response to the COVID pandemic. The Bishops went on a short hiatus as a result and returned to the stage for a couple Secret Shows in the summer of ’22. The new year sees the band returning to the stage with a refreshed lineup and renewed energy as they plan to revisit their familiar haunts all across the region.
