STEPHEN KELLOGG AND THE SIXERS

I’m writing on behalf of all of us to let you, our fans, our friends, know that SK6ERS will be going on hiatus at the end of 2012. I sing in a band with 4 other lead singers who play more than a dozen instruments. Our travels together have taken us to 11 countries, performing 1,224 shows in the last 9 years. Some of the highlights of this time together are tangible. In 2007, USA Today critic Brian Mansfield made us very happy by declaring Glassjaw Boxer one of the top 5 records of the year. In 2009, Armed Forces Entertainment named us “Entertainers of the Year.” Just last year, we got to crack the Billboard 100 with the release of Gift Horse. We have had the opportunity to tour with any number of amazing artists from Dispatch to Sugarland, David Crosby to Hanson, George Thorogood to OAR.

Many of the best experiences are intangible. Belly laughs crossing the desert of Arizona singing Beach Boys, Sixertown, Field Day, Rock Boat, being brought to tears by an electric audience at Washington D.C.’s 9:30 Club, sharing the quiet satisfaction of the good shows and the pain of the ones that didn’t come off as intended. This is a wonderful organization to be a part of, and when I think of not just the talent, but the quality of people associated with SK6ERS, I’m humbled night after night.

There’s nothing wrong. Change is good. It just means that after the end of the year we have no recording or touring plans as SK6ERS. Following almost a decade of living together as “road dogs,” some of our gang needs a moment to explore some other facets of life. As such we’re taking a break from our band.

For the next chapter, Ol’ SK is here to stay. I will be starting work on a new record this summer, and I look forward to sharing it with you. Me and my songs aren’t going anywhere, in fact there are some really exciting things on the horizon...but that’s in the future. For right now, we’re still focused on this moment. Stay tuned for a tour announcement on July 9th, as we do VERY MUCH intend to celebrate before we hibernate. We hope you’ll join us, and now would be the time to bring friends out and make this puppy hum.

With fondness and appreciation,

SK, 7/2/12
