When St Dominic's Trio came into being almost twenty years ago, the band actually was a trio. Fronted by Terry Walsh, it was conceived as a way to bring a version of the Van Morrison cover band The Belfast Cowboys to smaller pubs that couldn't accommodate a nine-piece.
Today the Trio usually contains four to six players, with a disclaimer that the actual band size and weight may vary. The song selection varies quite a bit too, featuring rock gems by a wide variety of artists, as well as Walsh's original compositions.
The band has played shows in Minneapolis every Tuesday since 2010, first at Nye's Polonaise Room, and then relocating to the Driftwood Char Bar in 2016 after Nye's closed. The rollicking, stream-of-consciousness, 4-hour shows aren't scripted in advance. When one song ends, it's followed by whatever comes next to the mind of a band or audience member. This can lead to thrilling - and/or hilarious - results.
