Minneapolis native, Los Angeles-based producer Riley Smithson aka Shrimpnose preps for his latest LP, As It Seems, due for release on October 27 via Friends of Friends Music. It’s a big step up sonically, with elements of post-dubstep, future bass, hyperpop, and folk rock blended with his low fidelity leanings. Throughout the album, Riley addresses topics of disability, isolation, and feelings of codependence in a nuanced way that illustrates his own experiences, accompanied by an impressive lineup of friends and collaborators: Anomalie, Bobby Raps, Ryan Hemsworth, Blockhead, Blu, Bad Snacks, SwuM, Somni, and Joe Nora.
Shrimpnose has been climbing the ranks over the past years, with features in Complex, VICE, NPR, and most recently Rinse FM, Passion of the Weiss, and BBC. He has a decorated history of collaborations with Bleep Bloop, Holly, Daedelus, Bobby Raps, Little Snake, and more. He has performed across the country with underground heavyweights such as XXYYXX, Purity Ring, Caspa, TOKiMONSTA, Giraffage, and more. He has also played festivals such as Snowta, Infrasound, Summerset (Skrillex, Marshmello, Post Malone, Excision, Tipper) and played one of the final Low End Theory nights in LA.
