Shane Cox & The Funky Spuds bring a fresh groove to the Twin Cities scene in their mission to elevate the sousaphone and brass-driven music. With a sound that fuses jazz, funk, and a little New Orleans swagger, the band unites some of Minneapolis’ top jazz and funk talent: David Feily (BZ3 Organ Trio, Rhythm Street Movement) on guitar, Pete Suttman (Dr. Mambo’s Combo) on drums, Frank Merchlewitz (Your Smith) on keys, Andrew Gillespie on percussion, and Ryan Freitason saxophone. Frontman Shane Cox anchors the group with his dynamic work on trumpet, trombone, and sousaphone. Drawing inspiration from a diverse array of genres with bands like T-Square, John Scofield, and Trombone Shorty, The Funky Spuds blend tight grooves, bold brass, and infectious energy.
