Enter THE SMITH: SET THE SMITH is of the first generation to not know life before Hip-Hop music and culture. SET's older brother Gage and father Charles C. Lockhart II, had a hand in creating that scene in Minneapolis. At the suggestion of Gage, Charles Sr. formed one of city's' first Rap Crews - The I.R.M (Immortal Rap Masters) Crew. He put them on his own label and did Minnesota's first full scale Hip-Hop shows in local venues that had never seen such concerts. SET showed an interest and talent for Hip-Hop music at 5.At 5 he was masterfully creating and running drum patterns with his mouth.
SET began rhyming two years later at age 7. His brother and Siddiq Sayers (of Rhyme Sayers Entertainment) formed a crew called "Brigade" which merged with another called "Genesis". He and the others in Genesis/Brigade played Hip-Hop's "Renaissance" or "Rebirth", which happened in the very late 80's thru the mid to late 90's. It was during a few of these shows SET THE SMITH free-styled in front of crowds of people at the age of 13 in a downtown nightclub called the Rogue. Fast-forward to today through years of blood sweat and tears and you have the return/emergence of that 100% EMCEE.
