Emanating from the windy city of Chicago, IL, USA, Secret Colours is an independently run music collective that has progressed from their roots in rock, constantly striving to innovate their sound. Since their inception in 2010, the band has worked to collaborate its contemporary range of personalities guided by the leadership of the group’s core members, Tommy Evans & Justin Frederick. The collective has appeared with the likes of Doctor Dog, Ringo Deathstarr, Elephant Stone, Spindrift, Asteroid #4, the Raveonettes, the Night Beats, Warpaint and The Warlocks. Concurrently they worked with producer Brian Deck (Modest Mouse, Gomez, Sage Francis, Iron & Wine) to sharpen the edges of their polychromatic sophomore album, Peach - released May 28, 2013.
With the release of Positive Distractions (May 2014), Secret Colours craft a sound that reaches far beyond the industrial city limits of their hometown of Chicago, IL. Recorded at Dandy Sounds Studio in Dripping Springs, TX by Producer Dan Duszynski, they have taken a direction by relying much more on the live spirit that swells from the stage. Taking musical cues from indie rock, psychedelia and garage and fusing them into an album that is truly unique, the album is unlike anything the band has put to tape. Positive Distractions takes its listeners through a myriad of melodies. Songs like “Into You” and “I Know What You Want” are homages to their BritPop influences while opening song “City Slicker” has all the cool of ‘60s psych-pop followed up by “It Can’t Be Simple” complete with a jabbing organ. Secret Colours is eager to continue their musical collective, as they prepare for their upcoming Sumer 2016 release of their fourth record.
