To fans throughout the world, the name Reid Speed is synonymous with the best in bass music. Consistently ranked as one of the worlds top DJ’s, she’s referred to by many as the Bass Boss. Her award-winning Play Me Records label has introduced more top talent than any of it’s kind. In her tenure at the label, she’s shown that she’s more than a brilliant music creator—she’s great at discovering and curating talent as well.
Reid has been on the forefront of bass music for more than a decade. She came up in the New York underground selling records at the legendary Breakbeat Science, where was one of the first American DJs to incorporate the sounds of 2-step and speed garage into her mixes. Since then, she has torn up venues across the United States and Europe as well as in such exotic locales as Costa Rica. One of the greatest DJs in EDM, she has performed at such festivals as Ultra (7 years), WEMF, Together As One, and Monster Massive—just to name a few. She’s also made television appearances on shows such as The Jamie Kennedy Experiment and MDN on Spike TV. In 2009, she co-founded the influential label Play Me Records, whose output helped usher in the North American Bass music movement. The label has been honored with the titles Best Dubstep Label / Best New Artist 2010 by Beatport as well as Best Branded Label 2011/ 2012 by Symphonic Distribution. With Reid Speed at the helm, the label played a major role as EDM grew in popularity in the United States during the early 2010s.
