Quentin Moore aka “Q” is a poet and an emcee from the Twin Cities by way of Chicago. Quentin was raised in a musical household on the Northside of Minneapolis. His step-father Arthur Branscomb, played trumpet with Minnesota greats “Cornbread” Harris Sr. and Big Walter Smith & the Groove Merchants. Quentin and his siblings, Emerald and Lavina, were members of the Ole’ 4th Ave South Drill Team throughout elementary and middle school. Q began writing poetry at age 12. He had his first poem published while in 7th grade at Ascension School in Minneapolis. While at De La Salle High School Quentin turned to poetry to cope with his mother’s battle with breast cancer. After his mother’s death Quentin attended the University of St. Thomas where he graduated in 2009 with a B.A. in Advertising.

After graduating Quentin began performing spoken word throughout the Twin Cities. He was accepted to the Given’s Black Writer’s Retreat in 2010 where he honed his writing skills alongside mentors Laurie Carlos and Ishmael Reed. Since then he has performed at venues across the Twin Cities including, Capri Theatre, Pillsbury House Theatre, Elixir Night Club, Fine Line Music Café, The Lounge, University of Minnesota Voices Merging, The Black Dog Café and The Blue Nile. Quentin is also a member of Blue Ink Poets. Quentin’s career as an emcee jumpstarted a year ago, fueled with a passion to influence and inspire.
