Plume Giant

Oliver, Nolan, and Eliza met as students at Yale, and quickly began layering together song ideas into what would become Plume Giant. Plume Giantʼs blend of ʻ60s harmonies, summery folk, and whimsical humor has charmed audiences across the country and often evokes comparisons to bands like Bowerbirds, Dirty Projectors, Sea Wolf, and Dan Hicks. Still, the trio finds its own sound by weaving together inventive harmonies, evocative lyrics, double fiddles, and various other melodious noises from tambourines, harmoniums, melodicas, and any other toys they can get their hands on!

Plume Giant is Oliver Hill (guitar, viola, voice), Nolan Green (guitar, harmonium, voice), and Eliza Bagg (violin, harmonium, trinkets, voice). Oliver and Eliza come from a lineage of classical musicians, both having been raised by classical violinists and majoring in music at Yale. Nolan doesn’t have any training and grew up learning Dave Van Ronk, Doc Watson, Neil Young, and the like on his own. They may come at things from different directions, but it’s that push and pull that shapes their sound and keeps it so engaging.

All of Plume Giant’s songs are written together – in the living room, on the porch, or in the backyard somewhere. When performing live, Plume Giant maintains their carefully crafted harmonies while immersing their music in the energy and humor that stems from their quirks and friendship. In October of 2010 they released an eponymous EP, and proceeded to sell 3,500 copies of it out of their trunk on the road, while touring with the likes of Brown Bird, Sharon Van Etten, Paper Bird, Sean Rowe, He's My Brother She's My Sister, Caroline Smith & the Goodnight Sleeps. Plume Giant released their debut full-length, Callithump, in August of 2012.
