PalmsPsalm

The world as we know it is ending, casually. While Californians cough dirt and the next boring superstorm trolls the coast, politicians are throwing snowballs because it was cold outside yesterday. Eric Pasi (Hunting Club), a Hawaiian transplant to Minneapolis, has set this cheerful stage as a backdrop for PalmsPsalm, a non-profit music project aimed at raising climate change awareness and money to support groups like 350.org, the Sierra Club, and more.

In 2014 Pasi visited Tonga, an island nation in the South Pacific. His father emigrated from the country in 1980 where the capitol sits at an uncomfortable 3 meters above sea level. Before the end of this century Tonga (and most of its neighboring states) will likely be gone and with it the culture, history, and home of a people who have had little to do with its depressing fate.

Pasi himself is a rabid environmentalist. Since college he's dedicated himself to renewable energy and the cause of climate change. With solar panels on his home in Minneapolis and a plug-in car, his lifestyle is nearly 100% carbon neutral. The music is self-described as MauiWave -- an island-tinged flavor of chillwave -- and notably less distressing than the aforementioned subject might indicate. While the songs may be lighthearted in some respects, PalmsPsalm lyrics are dusted in subtle satire meant to keep ears happy while inciting action.
