Oquoa began as a solo recording project for Max Holmquist (The Great American Desert). He met with Roger L. Lewis (The Good Life/Conduits) and J.J. Idt (Conduits/Eagle Seagull) and began writing and arranging music as a full band rather than a solo project. With a full set of songs they entered the studio and started playing shows under the name Oquoa. They released the album in the Summer of 2014 after J.J Idt left the band.
Patrick Newbery (Cursive/Tim Kasher band) joined on keys and Mike Overfield (Conduits/Eagle Seagull) on bass. With a new lineup and a new set of songs, they began recording in the summer of 2015 and released their latest EP, In Oneir on July 30. Their music evokes a dreamy, floating, ambient feeling layered over simple pop and rock structures and arrangements.
