The band is fronted by the expressive Rob Phillips, who is the lead singer/song writer and rhythm guitar player. Jeff Kruse brings a robust flavor of lead guitar to the mix and a unique style to the stage. Jennifer Peterson adds tender and compelling backing vocals, piano and most importantly the beautiful violin you hear throughout the stories. Since 2010 the three members have performed around Minneapolis and surrounding cities. Old Desert Road had the privilege of working with the talented and skilled percussionist Eric Kramlinger during the summer of 2012 that created a new sound for the band.
Since then, the trio has performed at the Fine Line Music Café, Whiskey Junction, Honey, and the Nether Bar at Mill City Nights to just name a few. The band is always working on new material, most recently the release of Tour Guide EP. The EP debuted during a month long residency at Whiskey Junction in April 2013. Summer of 2013 hosted a season of meeting friends and Zach Anderson (bass) and Kyle Younggren (percussion) became the rhythm section for Old Desert Road. The band has many inspirations, such as Neil Young, The Dave Mathews Band, The Decemberists, Jack White, Bright Eyes, The Avett Brothers, Modest Mouse, Cold War Kids, The Lumineers, Brand New, and Brandi Carlile.
