Mike Dreams, born Michael Alexander Hannah, on November 13, 1988, in an American Hip-Hop Artist & Writer from Minneapolis, MN. Mike grew up on the South Side of Minneapolis, and began getting interested in hip-hop music around the age of 8, performing in various community events and talent shows. His interest in becoming a professional recording and performing artist came during his senior year of High School, when his older brother, J.B was tragically gunned down in 2006. After graduation, Mike began to write and perform his original material.
Since 2007, Mike Dreams has been releasing and performing original music. His music and material have gained local, national and international exposure through some of the world’s largest urban media outlets (DJBOOTH.NET, 2DopeBoyz.com, NahRight, VladTV, etc). The music is self-described as “aspiration-based, inspirational, generational, realistic and sincere.” Many of Mike’s songs come from life experiences, philosophy, self-actualization, nostalgia and coming of age. He’s released four official projects; Dreamer’s Poetry and Just Waking Up in 2010, a promotional mixtape, Youngin' from '88 in the summer of 2012, and his third independent studio album, Millennial.
In early 2014, he released a compilation titled Mike Dreams: The Collaborations, Vol. 1, a collection of all of his featured verses with other artists. His performance accolades include playing the Soundset Festival in 2010, powered by the independent record label Rhymesayers, along with the likes of local and national acts such as Doomtree, Toki Wright, Wiz Khalifa, Macklemore and Method Man and Redman. He’s opened up for nationally known artists including One.Be.Lo, Eyedea and Abilities, Zion I and Yelawolf. In 2014, Mike Dreams’ music was featured on the STARZ Network Hit Television series, POWER, executive produced by 50 Cent.
In correlation with social awareness and community activism, Mike has served as the main performing act at the Midwest Regional PeaceJam International celebration ceremony for 2003 Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Shirin Ebadi of Iran in March 2007, and again in 2012, as well as the 2008 PeaceJam Celebration for Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and in 2010, for the 1992 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Rigoberta Mechu Tum of Guatemala. He has performed across Minnesota and the Midwest at elementary, junior and senior high schools, a traveling concert tour promoting peace through hip-hop and performing arts. In additional to a solo career, Mike also is also a registered songwriter with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. He's co-wrote for NBC's The Voice Season 5 Contestant Ashley DuBose, Minneapolis-based teen R&B/Rap girls duo LNJAY and Christina Sophia.
Mike Dreams is currently recording his 4th independent studio album, Pardon My Vices, slated for a 2016 release.
