Michael Lemmo is an LA-based jazz guitar rockstar. He just released his first full-length rock blues album, Blue Comet.
Though his personal foundational guitar and songwriting heroes are Jeff Buckley, Lindsey Buckingham, and Eddie Van Halen, Lemmo plays guitar and sings in very much the tradition of Eric Clapton and George Benson. His heartfelt pop/rock/Americana-styled vocal “La Cienega” has received accolades on the Top 40/Hot AC format since its January 3, 2022 release. While the Blue Comet - the title track of its first single featuring saxophonist and labelmate Jeff Ryan - is predominantly instrumental, the album includes three vocal cuts. This recent release is the perfect metaphor for the multi-talented guitarist and singer/songwriter’s unique career trajectory.
While Lemmo grew up playing primarily rock, many of his compositions are what he calls “clean, very melodic, borderline jazzy pieces.” They were a perfect fit for Brown’s R&B, jazz, and blues sensibilities, and the two hit it off immediately. Lemmo had self-produced recording projects in the past, but was thrilled to finally have a veteran like Brown offer thematic and sonic guidance and honest input.
