If opposites attract, Meredith Fierke’s music is the atomic collider where they smash together, and once familiar elements are fused into astonishing substances. Soaring vocal melodies, reminiscent of 19th century art music, are conjoined with the “glass scraping on metal-edge” soundscape of the industrial world; a unique aesthetic she calls “dirty-pretty.” With honesty and raw emotion, she navigates the oftentimes dark and thorny trail of life’s contradictions. Gathered around Meredith is an ensemble of innovative musicians, crafting unexpected combinations of color and counterpoint, painting a surreal landscape around her sensuous voice and adding layers of meaning. Sentient poetry, stunning melodic lines, and brilliant sonorities combine to forge an unforgettable performance. Meredith Fierke has performed in many of the Twin Cities most notable music venues and, in 2009, appeared at the Red Gorilla Festival at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas. In January of 2009 Meredith was invited to give a live radio performance in KTCZ – Cities97’s Studio C. That recording of “Train’s Song” was subsequently chosen for the prestigious CITIES 97 SAMPLER Volume 21 along with artists Rob Thomas, Snow Patrol, and Jason Mraz. Her album The Procession was released to great acclaim in 2008.
