MATTHÄUS

MATTHAÜS // is a new project based in Chicago. The idea was to bring a different musical aesthetic and style to venues and audiences with more pop sensibilities. The music strives to be challenging and inviting; visceral and intellectual; grand and humble.

Drawing on a wide range of inspirations from contemporary composers like Steve Reich and Georg Friedrich Haas to pop artists like Bon Iver and the National, the music of Matthäus is at once dark and technical as well as introspective and lyrical. With a focus on unique orchestration, not only is each song an exploration of different sounds and timbres, but each performance features a different group of musicians and instrumentations.

Matthaüs is led by musician and composer Ben Montalbano and is releasing their first EP in March of 2016.
