Icelandic force MAMMÚT have been together since they were just 13. Founded in 2003 for a battle of the bands, their first live performance in downtown Reykjavik caught the attention of their hometown’s musical elite. The band released their debut self-titled album in 2006 via The Sugarcubes’ label Smekkleysa.
Two further albums in Icelandic followed on their native Records Records, gaining the band notoriety on home turf with six charting-topping singles and both records going gold. Third album, Komdu Til Mín Svarta Systir, was nominated seven times at the Icelandic Music Awards, taking home three prizes.
They signed to Bella Union, releasing fourth album Kinder Versions in 2017, their first record in English. The album received critical acclaim and found the band nominated for a further six categories at the Iceland Music Awards, taking home three prizes for Best Album, Best Song ("Breathe into me") and Best Singer of the Year.
The band are Katrína Mogensen (vocals), Alexandra Baldursdóttir (guitar), Ása Dýradóttir (bass), Valgeir Vernharðsson (drums) and Arnar Pétursson (guitar). MAMMÚT are currently working on their fifth record.
