Originally formed as a one-off band for a Halloween party in 2019, Low Rats received such a warm reception they quickly recognized their explosive potential. Writing original music influenced primarily by the obscure and seedy underbelly of 1950s, 60s and 70s Punk and Rock and Roll, they began gigging regionally and nationally honing their recklessly fun live shows and infectious songs to razor sharpness.
The band's debut full-length record, Year of the Rat MMXX, was released in late 2020 and was picked as one of the Star Tribune's best Minnesota albums of the year. They have received regular airplay on The Current 89.3 FM and KFAI 90.3 FM and have performed on The Current's "Sounds Like Home" Virtual music festival as well as MCN6 "Bands On Vans". Low Rats is currently back in the studio working on new music for upcoming releases.
“The quartet has hit the above-ground running in 2021 with an already reputedly wild live show and this debut LP of immediately familiar but freshly rowdy sonic grime...”
Chris Riemenscheider, Star Tribune
"The bastard sons of Iggy and the MC5 but with some of the real Detroit dirt à la Timmy's Organism or the Clone Defects."
Tim Brooks, Razorcake Magazine
"Low Rats are like the NY Dolls babysitting Brian Setzer."
