Each week, acclaimed musician and songwriter Chris Thile welcomes a wide range of well-known and up-and-coming talent to share the stage and create a beautiful listening experience on his variety show, Live from Here. Bringing audiences near and far together on Saturday evenings has been a tradition in public radio since host Garrison Keillor and team launched A Prairie Home Companion in 1974.
On March 4, 1978, the show found its new home at The World Theater – a lovely, crumbling building that was one plaster crack away from the wrecking ball – that is now fully renovated and known as the Fitzgerald Theater. The show took a two-year hiatus in June of 1987, and then returned, this time in New York. But there’s no place like home. So five years later, it was back to Minnesota.
Acclaimed musician and songwriter Chris Thile took over the helm of A Prairie Home Companion in fall 2016 after a lifetime of listening. “I grew up with the show,” Chris says. “I take this opportunity, this job, immensely seriously and with great awe.” The show, now known as Live from Here, continues the tradition of Saturday evening entertainment on public radio – in person, online, on the radio.
