Kids Like Us is composed of a family of three musicians, Sam Wayne, Eli Fhima, and Lizzie Fontaine as a featured vocalist. Mixing Lizzie's soulful and jazzy sound with Sam and Eli's dark/conscious lyrical images and quick-witted rhythmic flow is a recipe for expressive, moving, and head bouncing hip-hop.
Eli, Sam, and Lizzie's ambition is relentless. At only 20 years old, KLU has tackled several local clubs with their smelly DJ Beaker in the MPLS/STP area. They have grabbed the audiences attention in venues such as the Cabooze, First Avenue, Fineline, etc. Sharing the stage with artists such as Tech n9ne, Freeway, Joell Ortiz, Mod Sun, Asher Roth, EOTO, I Self Devine, Toki Wright, G-Eazy, and more. Kids have also hit the road to Hayward, Wisconsin and Lawrence, Kansas.
Rapper, Sam Wayne (AKA Yosemite), brings an assertive voice to the table. With a true love of acting and movies, Sam morphs into characters and places his tone carefully in the core of every beat. With his strong flow, distinct disposition, and balance between vulnerability and confidence. Rapper, Eli Fhima, brings an empathetic and self loathing side to the group. Eli leans to an allegorical theme of love, while channeling his passive aggressive anger towards certain issues in society. Eli swaps his bleeding heart with yours while staying persistent with his pocket bending cadences. Vocalist, Lizzie Fontaine, hits the listener with an up lifting, moving, and bold voice. Lizzie's lyrics and tone overcast a positive outlook on life and bring a lot of personality to the mix. When Lizzie starts to sing, heads turn. It is not hard to see her passion.
Inspired from an early age by many MPLS musicians, this dynamic trio distinctly brings their own character and personality to the scene. The title "Kids Like Us" was born from the inspiration of the many Kids, young and old, who remain open minded about life's many complexities and put a fist up for a different tomorrow. Kids Like Us let their colossal imaginations and musicality shine. Their music will leave you thinking out of the box... or really, have you realizing that there is no box at all.
