JUSTON STENS AND THE GET REAL GANG

Juston Stens was a guitarist in a young punk band before turning to drums at age 20 after breaking his wrist. He ended up as the drummer for the popular rock band Dr. Dog after moving to Philadelphia, but always considered himself foremost a singer, songwriter and guitar player.

Stens left Dr. Dog to play guitar and write and record his own music, a hard decision that he marked by rebuilding a 1972 Triumph motorcycle and hitting the road. The resulting cross-country journey took him to visit friends in bands like Wilco, Spoon, Dr. Dog, Drug Rug, Those Darlins, Giant Cloud and Apollo Sunshine. Stens wrote and recorded songs with musical pals at each destination, and the trip was documented in the Drew Stubbs film, I Lay Where I Fall., which premiered on April 18 at the Nashville Film Festival. You can read more about this in this USA Today article. The final product of that cross country trip is the album, Share the Road, is available now on Eschatone Records.
