Jonathan Harms

Often seen in Minneapolis folk band Fox & Coyote, Jonathan Harms dives headfirst into a raucous new world in his solo debut. Furious, anxiety driven improvisations on electric guitar verge on noise, while bass lines underpin and root the music in delta blues and other styles. His songwriting, honed over many years of writing, has now expanded into quiet, patient reflections that complement his jittery and jangly outbursts.

This Light Skin of Earth finds Harms grappling with the isolation and emotional insulation of anxiety. In it, he explores the value of his own perspective compared to the average perspective of many. In this process, he also plumbs the depths of perspectives we might not see everyday - including those we think less than intelligent, those we deem simply alive, and those that we call inert. In much of his music (both lyrically and instrumentally) he is working to express the quality of being alive - possibly of coming online for the first time - and experiencing another way of life vastly different from what we recognize in our day to day.
