Jon Berg is an American guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter from Saint Paul, Minnesota. His music blends elements of indie rock, indie pop, and alternative. Walking the streets at night past Gilded Age homes of Crocus Hill, he felt a connection that helped inspire a record. Jon also drew upon other experiences and observations that affected him, some deeply. The mystery of night fascinates him, and it played a role in this window to his inner self. Lyric sheets were typically messy, as the words seemed to flow from the edge of consciousness. Listeners may notice subtle influences of The Cars, The Cure, Aaron Copland, Led Zeppelin, and others. The single “Shuffle of Love”, and debut album Watching for Clues, were released February 2023 on Spotify, Apple Music, and other streaming platforms. The title track “Watching for Clues” went on to reach #11 on Stockholm’s YouTube Top Songs chart in May 2023, and “Shuffle of Love” has been heard on 93X Loud & Local. Jon’s most recent release is a cover of The Smiths’ May 1986 single “Bigmouth Strikes Again”. This song was recorded with Jenny Case (Flamin’ Oh’s) on bass, Peter Anderson (Run Westy Run & The Ocean Blue) on drums, Ryan Smith (Soul Asylum & The Melismatics) on guitars and piano, and session/mix engineer Rob Oesterlin at The Terrarium in Minneapolis.
