John Hermanson is an award winning songwriter and composer who has created and sold music in many genres, most notably orchestral, world, pop, and rock. John is a member of the acclaimed duo Storyhill, a regular guest performer on NPR’s A Prairie Home Companion. The duo has a loyal following, produces a thriving annual music festival, and has independently sold over 250,000 records during the course of a 25-year career. John is also the founder of the art rock band Alva Star, and was a member of the indie-rock group, The Hopefuls. Both bands have licensed numerous songs for use in television shows, including Six Feet Under, The OC, and Dirty Sexy Money.
Under the name John August, Hermanson composed, recorded, and produced fifteen world music titles for the Lifescapes label, selling over one million records to date. In this endeavor he collaborated closely with musicians from many ethnic traditions. Hermanson is a co-owner of Egg Music, a full-service creative music house specializing in original music for advertising, film, and TV. With locations in both Los Angeles and Minneapolis, Egg’s staff of experienced and accomplished composers, producers, and mixing engineers assist Hermanson with daily time-sensitive deliveries to top advertising agencies, production studios, and Fortune 500 companies.
