Heartbeats

Marked by pairings of longtime friendships, Heartbeats started as a studio-recording project between high school friends Eric Lovold and Ryan Carerra. Shortly after meeting drummer Jason McGlone, the bedrock for the band was laid. As compositions came into form, the three began recording material for what would become a full length LP, initially at McGlone and Lovold’s home away from home Saint Paul studios – Essential Sessions and Fuzzy Slippers, respectively. Shortly after the 2012 New Year, Heartbeats booked time at Minneapolis destination studio, The Hideaway. An engineer was needed for the session; Jason called in longtime friend Colin Sheffield to lend his ears and hands. Both Jason and Colin grew up in metro Detroit, where they met ten years previously, obsessing over one another’s record collections long before relocating to Minneapolis.

Shortly after this session, where enthusiasm for the songs became apparent, Colin joined Heartbeats on guitar. A live band was budding, and soon it was rounded out by the talents of Zach Schmidt (keyboards/piano) and Tim Greenwood (synths/guitar), whose relationships with the crew of Heartbeats are parallel: Greenwood a long time friend of Lovold’s, Schmidt, a long time friend of McGlone’s. Collectively they became Heartbeats, a crew that simply came together overnight. Heartbeats’ first release – a limited edition 7” featuring current singles "Radio Distraction" and "These Streets" – was released March 17, 2012 on Chronicle Records, an offshoot to Eric Foss’ parent label Secret Stash. The full-length debut, Driving in the Night features dense layers of production coupled with dark lyrical imagery about metropolis life: a concept album. The LP was mixed by Dean Baltulonis (The Hold Steady: Separation Sunday, Heaven Is Whenever) at Wild Arctic Studio in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and is slated for a late Fall 2012 release.
