Liam Benzvi and Francis Jimenez have been playing shows together since mid 2012, sporting layers of post-punk and new wave influence over shiny pop hooks. Named one of the Twin Cities’ Best New Bands of 2012 by City Pages, Strange Names has since put out two self-released EPs and one single 7” with White Iris Records (Best Coast, Electric Guest, Fool’s Gold). Benzvi, raised in Brooklyn, NY, came to Minnesota for college where he met Minnesota-bred Jimenez in the freshmen dorms. They began exchanging ideas for songs in late 2010, and quickly established an appreciation for each other’s writing. Since then, with a successful run at SXSW 2013, they have played alongside Yeasayer, The Walkmen, Matt and Kim, Mac DeMarco, and just came off a tour in support of Electric Guest. Strange Names is currently recording a debut full length record in Minneapolis with no set release date.
