Don Von & the Solution

Formed in Minneapolis, MN in the summer of 2007 by the Don Von and Drummer Gilman, seven-piece live hip hop band Don Von & the Solution is an amalgam of musical influences and backgrounds, creating something organic and timeless within the framework of hip hop. Already active in Minneapolis hip hop, the Don Von's 10 Fingers, 10 Toes in the Game mixtape, released in early 2007, provided an early set of guideposts for the band.

Songs like "S.O.T.A." and "Real Like Me" found new life in the hands of the assembled live musicians: drummers Gilman & Stusiak, bassist Jesse Tomlinson, guitarist Sheldon Rinehart, keyboardist Steve Erickson, vocalist Maurice Doniphan, and the Don Von. The next two years brought handfulls of high-octane live shows, sweltering/freezing practices (season dependent), clustered recording sessions, total communication breakdowns, and legal entanglements - which all had to occur naturally to reach the culmination of the band's first act - 4 finely polished gems, known collectively as Conditional Release. Never ones to be stagnant or complacent, the Solution continues pushing themselves toward new sounds and new approaches.
