Diver Dress was started as a solo project by Aaron LeMay (who has played with International Espionage!, Mark Mallman, Ruby Isle, and Planes for Spaces) as a way to kill time while living in a practice space over the summer of 2011. Aaron played the songs to friends Aaron Sapp (of International Espionage!), Angie Kilcher (of Burger Thirst and Serenghetto) and Drew Erickson (of Burger Thirst and Ogre Smash Death Boom), and they all wanted to make it a "real" band. In the punk rock tradition, everyone grabbed instruments they had never played before and headed to the basement.
Within the first 6 months of the band's formation, they've shared stages and basement floors with The Intelligence, K-Holes, and Lenguas Largas, as well as local Minneapolis favorites The Birthday Suits, Teenage Moods, and Pony Trash, among others. In the summer of 2012, the band also crept into a basement in Northeast Minneapolis to start recording a 5-song 7" record with Tony Najm (formerly of The Alarmists, New Century Masters). When they came out, they had a record full of lo-fi reverbed-out weirdness, thanks in part to the fact the everything on the record was run through a barely functioning Roland Space Echo.
