Devin

Gifted new artist Devin’s debut full-length album, Romancing, is out now on Frenchkiss Records. KCRW declares “Bold. Brash. Boisterous. Teeming with hooks and spilling over with attitude. If this is how you prefer your rock n’ roll, you have a new hero for 2012. He goes by the name Devin.” Time Out New York describes Romancing as a “hip-thrusting, beer-sloshing record that fairly drips with swagger—a fine contrast to all of Brooklyn’s indie-pop sighs and whispers.”

Devin’s three-song EP for Frenchkiss, You’re Mine, received critical acclaim from Rolling Stone and earned him comparisons to David Johansen and Jack White. Named one of NME’s “20 Acts That Will Matter in 2012,” Devin is receiving airplay on the BBC’s Radio 1 and was included in The Guardian’s “Guide to the Next 12 Months.” Devin recently toured the U.S. with Heartless Bastards and played U.K. dates including the NME Awards on the heels of his critical acclaim. Devin also performed a number of SXSW dates including Rolling Stone’s Rock Room Party.

Frenchkiss label owner Syd Butler signed Devin shortly after hearing a track recorded in his home studio and seeing his compelling live performance. Devin’s live shows are garnering attention quickly—Brooklyn Vegan declared “Devin’s flamboyant stage presence mixed with his passionate vocal delivery make his performances extremely memorable. His energetic antics recall those of Iggy Pop and New York Dolls era David Johansen, while maintaining his own on-stage personality,” while The LA Record raved “the songs smelled of leather motorcycle jackets and hollow body guitars.” A recent post from the Sour Mash blog stated “from his classic rock, punk-infused tunes to his onstage swagger it was no wonder we fell in love immediately.” Romancing and You’re Mine were both written while Devin worked at a Brooklyn shipping warehouse and contains what he calls his “first good songs.” “I never knew I could pull off rock, but I wrote some songs…they have references all over the place to the music that I like,” notes Devin. “It just has to be fun—that’s the most important thing.”
