Dakotas

Brothers Adam & Collin Wisniewski have been writing songs together since they were kids. But it wasn't until the former invited the latter to handle lead guitar work for The Cloth Sea in 2010 that their true potential was unlocked. Collin's addition to his older brother's band brought the Wisniewski sibling count to 3; middle brother Alex started the group with Adam in 2007 as a soapbox for their overflowing catalog of original songs after Adam returned from a tour with the Army in Afghanistan. But a revolving door on bass mixed with other life-changing events stood in the way of progress for the group. The Cloth Sea self-produced/recorded only one 6 song EP, At Last, Awake (2010).

Being that he was the lead vocalist, Alex's departure to St. Louis in 2010 shortly after the release of their debut left a huge hole in the group, one too big to fill. Along with Cloth Sea bassist Dan Tachon and a new drummer, the remaining brothers, Adam & Collin began writing and rehearsing new material in the basement of Adam's suburban Madison, WI home. With the addition of Collin & Dan's college friend, Connor Leonard on drums early in 2012, Dakotas was born.

What emerged from this chaos was a louder, more angular version of The Cloth Sea, an evolution from larva to pupa to adult. While their sound is dynamic and fresh, Dakotas unmistakably draws heavy influence from the wide palate of sounds of the 1960s. Inspired by some of the greatest English rock bands of the era such as The Beatles, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds and Led Zeppelin, Dakotas also channels American Punk, Folk, Blues and Surf-rock. Evidence of these converging influences can be found in the considerably different guitar styles that the Wisniewski brothers employ to unique effect.
