Cory Shane

The Inverted Jenny Flies Again (2026) is the first release of a long-lost solo recording by Washington DC guitarist Cory Shane, out April 10, 2026 on limited edition vinyl via Tekeli-li Records, with digital distribution through Ghost Tower Records. The album was recorded in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on a Tascam cassette 4-track in 2002-03 and has remained unreleased until now.

Cory Shane came up through the DC heavy-psych and stoner-rock scene; in 1998 he co-founded Hollow Mountain with guitarist Jason Simon and Malcolm McDuffie, a band whose sound sat at odds with the post-hardcore consensus then dominant in the city, and which fed directly into Simon‘s next project, Dead Meadow. After Hollow Mountain, Shane played guitar and toured with The Rondelles before relocating to Santa Fe, where he began writing and recording the songs that would eventually form the bulk of the album.

Back in DC in 2003, Shane joined Dead Meadow for their fourth album Feathers (Matador Records); his guitar work runs through the record’s dreamlike atmosphere, and his songwriting appears on the track “Stacy’s Song.” He left the band in spring 2005, later returning for a series of reunion shows focused on Feathers material in the 2010s.

From 2005, Shane worked through the Santa Fe recordings with producer and multi-instrumentalist Eli Elkin (also known as Memory Man), who added bass and drum parts during the latter half of the decade. The finished album also features contributions from psychedelic hip-hop artist Edan (Beauty & The BeatEcho Party) and Jason Simon. The press release draws a comparison to Skip Spence’s Oar (1969); the album’s territory is described as country-dusted rock and mellow psychedelia, recorded at a remove from the sounds prevalent in that period.
