Described as, “a passionate exhale of thought-provoking music,” by Atwood Magazine, Chicago-based, indie rock band CHNNLL (pronounced ‘channel’) is focused on creating music that feels fresh but relatable.
Led by multi-instrumentalist, Chris Davidson, the concept of CHNNLL started in 2016 with the release of his first single, "Waves." Drawing on his experience as a professional jazz drummer, but guided by a desire to break-free from expectation, Chris wanted his band to mirror the word’s definitions. “The word ‘channell’ has multiple meanings and contexts; I wanted to create music that wasn’t limited to a particular genre, theme or set of rules.”
CHNNLL has gone on to release a handful of singles, a self-titled EP (2018), and a full-length album, The Test, in the fall of 2021, produced by Joey Waronker (Atoms for Peace, Beck, R.E.M.) “I’m really proud of this album,” Davidson said, “it’s my most personal release to date. Touching on topics such as love, mental health, and my brother’s autism diagnosis - I hope people can see their own story in these songs and that the music provides strength and comfort as we all navigate life’s tests.” Also appearing on the twelve-track LP are Zac Rae (Death Cab for Cutie) and Gabe Noel (Kendrick Lamar, Harry Styles, Father John Misty). Hear Zac on guitar, piano, and synthesizers, and Gabe on bass and strings.
