Whether it’s happening in a theater, in a roadhouse, or by the side of the road, BrassZilla will deliver its hip-shakin’ beer jazz. Something that's a little chilly and a little hot and makes the head start to move with a certain kind of groove. Something that everyone needs.
BrassZilla was founded in 2011 as a way for three horn players to explore their love of jazz, funk, blues, and other genres while touring with the Minneapolis rock band Chooglin’. That exploration led to the addition of drummer Andy Deckard and produced original compositions that defy typical notions of genre or style.
BrassZilla’s first full-length recording, Bronzy, was released in 2017 and a second recording, All Day Music All Night, was released in September 2019. Recorded in one December weekend with Rich Mattson at Sparta Sound, the approaching deep winter vibe and imminent presence of the Canadian Shield provided a new spaciousness in the band’s sound, which is well-represented on tracks like “The Incredible Mr. L” and “Company Store.”
BrassZilla reunited with some of their old bandmates and played in Eleganza’s rendering of the Rolling Stones’ Exile on Main Street record in the 7th St Entry, which was ranked the fourth best live show of 2018 in the Star Tribune.
